Copyright
Fair Use Analysis

Fair use is an exception to copyright law that allows someone to use a work without getting permission from the copyright holder. Fair use can be used for criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching, scholarship, and research.

Why do we have Copyright?

Copyright law rests in the Constitution. Article 1 Section 8 Clause 8 of the US Constitution states that copyright exists "To promote the progress of science and useful arts, by securing for limited times to authors and inventors the exclusive right to their respective writings and discoveries."

The purpose of the law is to help encourage authors to create more works by ensuring that they’ll be able to benefit from their work.

Open Source
Open Access (OA) is the free, immediate, online availability of research articles coupled with the rights to use these articles fully in the digital environment. OA ensures that anyone can access and use these results and ideas to impact knowledge and grow ideas. It is essential as CHEC scholars that you evaluate all content you choose to use for research.

Academic Integrity
If you chose to use your own work in another work, it must be cited like any other. Just because you wrote it yourself, it does not mean you cannot plagiarize.

Unless otherwise noted by a Bell High School educator, please use a standard citation style (APA, MLA, etc.).

Students are not allowed to complete other students work or use A.I. (Artificial Intelligence) to complete assignments.
